First post here - so, Hi All! And thanks in advance for any input from mpix-ers.

Before ordering my first set of prints I got the "monitor calibration kit" and am a bit puzzled by what I am seeing.

- My desktop monitor is calibrated using Spyder
- The image I am seeing on screen is brighter and more vivid than the print. The print looks darker, duller and a bit washed out...especially compared to the image on screen.

Any comments?

Though you have used a Spyder on your monitor, your gamma seting may not be accurate. Note that Mpix (and many other print labs) recommends the i1 Display 2 calibrating hardware and software.

You can visualy verify your gamma setting if you soft-proof. See - http://mpix.com/support/Help.aspx?id=3

Are ICC profiles available for soft proofing?

ICC profiles are available, but should only be used by those familiar with soft proofing. The profiles are for our E-Surface and Metallic papers. Included is a PDF of installation instructions. PLEASE NOTE: **You should never convert to the ICC printing profile or embed them in your files. For information on ICC profile install locations, please review the enclosed Help file.**

Keith,

Thanks! Downloading the mpix profile definitely helped me see within photoshop what I need to be doing for print - gamma is the issue, right, colors were spot on (phew!). Now on to getting my test prints done!
