Again, a great assignment, learned something new already! But the examples I saw were using 2 different images for the diptych, so you're asking us to do one pano and basically cut it in half and use that? Can you post an example of what you're talking about?

So from reading the instructions, you don't say it has to be a current photo, correct, it can be something we already have?

I might have to play with this.

Better read them again. It is in the lower section Has to be a new image.

Basically, but remember, both sides of the diptych have to stand on it's own.

You can cut it in half if you want but.......

Once again, sorry I'm dense, but I still don't really get this. In the directions you say:

"You are to create a single image that when split into a diptych, creates two entirely separate images with both images having good composition."

So, are we to create a single image from 2 images for the pano part of the requirement, then split to the diptych? I'm not trying to be difficult, I'd just like to understand so I can participate.

Ann, you are not dense in any way. It's just hard to wrap your brain around if you are a visual learner! I sent you an example (in a PM) of one I practiced on with an old picture I took. Doing it is easy on an old picture, being creative enough to shoot it with this in mind is going to be a challenge. I LOVE it!

Thank you for taking the time to send the example to me, that looks like a perfect diptych!

Now to figure out what I want to do......

Posted mine!
I realized when the contest was posted that I wanted 2 square images. Hmmmmmmmm. Holga shoots square.
I used my Holga to shoot one image, then advanced the film most of the way so it would overlap (hopefully!) and line up(hopefully!)
I was very happy to see the negative and then work through it.
The left side has a small bar on the right edge as a result of there being a small area where it double exposed. Oh well...

Works for me.... but be sure the longest side isn't over 1200px.

Nicely done Sue! No reason it had to be split into 2 same sized photos!

LOL, thanks Dave. Yours is really cool. I keep looking at it like an optical illusion. I haven't "advanced film" in sooo long.

I can't wait to see what everyone else come up with too. Good assignment. :)

Isn't it fun when the light bulb comes on??? That was one of the variables of the assignment that I didn't intentionally specify.
