It appears to me that none of the images posted so far follow the rules? Most are 2 seperate images, which is not a diptych.
The rules also say that you much use the entire origial image nothing added or taken away in which a couple appear to just have a thick line down the middle that actually hides part of the original image so not all of the original image is visible. Am I being too picky here?

Well this is what I'm asking though JC the black line down the middle takes out the chimney between the 2 gables, the roof eaves between the 2 and most of the table on the front porch. So is this OK to do that or Not. I think it's a great image, and probably gets my vote so far, but does it completely follow the rules of the contest?

Remember, it is all about image. You don't have permission to "play" with mine unless I specifically say so.

Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

From the movie "Zoolander" as in Derek Zoolander. Jennifer, my name is not Derek or Shirley, it's Sue not Susan, not Suelander, just Sue.

"So, the base image for the diptych must be 1:2 format but when split into the diptych you can format however you like but the entire original base image must be used. You can't add anything or take anything away from the base image."
The reason is because the area you are hiding with the line of demarcation, could effectively cover up an area of the image that might not be so pleasing for the composition. If the line dividing the two images was... hmmmm... say...... 100 pixels, then just putting that line through the image without separating the two images, would totally change the entire composition.

How you create it is up to you. All of the parameters are in the original assignment thread.
However, the easiest way...... create the image first..... then figure out where you are going to split it...... make the split then put those two on a new canvas that meets the parameters.
The hard part here is figuring out where to cut the image so that you effectively have two different images from a single image. The overall concept isn't difficult but requires you to think in advance.

Amazing how my mind just misses the obvious solution at times......

Ann, I took some liberties. There has to be plenty of other crops too. I couldn't do it in Picasa at work, but you could do it so the right side (about 1/3rd) is just the water, no birds, and the left side (about 2/3rds) has the birds.

First I cropped the big photo using a 10x20 crop ratio ( guestimating how big it needed to be to have just the 3 birds on the right frame) then I sub cropped that new10x20 ratio into 2 squares.
