Can anyone recommend some tutorials or resources for lighting? I have one alien bee 400 with a 2x3' (approx) softbox. I am clueless and not really happy with what I am getting.
Thanks in advance.

Since you are not sure where to start, I highly suggest that you go to youtube.com and type on "studio lighting" basics, tip, tricks etc... you will get a ton of videos on studio lighting. view a few from each person and see which one makes the most sense to you. Everybody learns differently. Once you find a source that 1) you like 2) makes sense 3) you trust, you can learn a bunch from the free videos.

I highly suggest looking up "adoramatv" on youtube. they have about 150 videos from studio set up to cutting matts for prints. You may not like all the videos but you can lean a lot from the ones that you do like.

you can even drill down further like seniors, or products or "one light" when you are ready for that step.

Save your money ( believe me, you WILL need it) and sponge off of youtube to start.

If you look hard enough, I have my own channel on there with my own take on photography :)

Thanks!!! And from what I have seen of your work, I will definitely look for yours!! I did some You Tube. I think my last attempt my biggest problem was the room was too dark and without a hair light I didn't really have any separation from the background. I did some with a similar setup a couple weeks ago except we had more light in the room and I loved the results.
oh and need a reflector. lol I have figured that out

Nebraska Girl,
Thanks you. remember to spend smart and don't load up on too much photography junk :)( shootkit not included wink:) When you decide to get a reflector, Go to your local art store and spend $5 on a 24x36 piece of foam core and $1.00 clamps from home depot. it is glossy white and makes the perfect reflector. The talent is in you not in your equipment.

That is so funny you said that because I already have clamps and I bought a piece of foam core at walmart and ended up using it for a project for my daughter. lol hoping I can clamp it onto my tripod or something easy like that.

I have really been lucky and have found a lot of what I want second hand. My bee, softbox & light stand were bought from another photographer gently used at a good price. most of my props and backgrounds are recylcled, 2nd hand or clearance buys. just need to pick up another good lens and I will be happy for awhile. lol
