I have no idea how to make it hop again, just trying to keep myself away from the landmines   

I do miss how fun it used to be! 

I'm thinking too.....humm that might be dangerous! lol

 I am slowly getting my sense of humor back...(very long couple of months for the gtrman)...but i've decided this place will never be what it was, and should stop trying...

"the good old days" are just the same as "the crappy old days" each of them had 24 hours.. The difference is attitude...

I'm not gonna write my long tirades of trying to prop stuff up anymore, rather..just gonna be.

I believe now more than ever that every day is a gift, and every breath wasted complaining about *** is just that...wasted... For me? And again.. I'm nobody, but if I read someone going negative, i'll ignore...not add too the convo...

I just read the Cort post re: playing. Sure I could choose a side that I agree with...but what is that gonna fix... is there a ref keeping score like in a tennis match? No..

I will say this... I do think its time for an independent moderator.  Assigned by Mpix. Someone who will accept complaints, PRIVATELY and fix them...

People really...we have what, 4 problems a week... in the 4 seconds it would take to curb it with a moderator email, we would not have such a clustercluck over something that could be fixed as follows:

Using this situation simply as an example..

1. Cort is upset by an unasked-for edit on his image. 

2. Cort tells Mod, "Hey.. this is against the rules, can you please fix"

3. Mod privately emails person, please do not play on other users images without  prior permission...thanks !

4. Mod posts for all.. "Hey yall.. please remember to please ask permission before you play on someone's images...dems the rules, and we would appreciate it if you all followed them.

DONE !!  It does the following:

a) takes the users themselves out of the firing lines.

b) fixes it quick, and gently reminds all to learn proper netiquette.

c) clearly states the rules for all, and shows leadership and does away with the confusion.

 
Negativity is a cancer people...it spreads like wildfire.. If you put it out right away... it only burns for a second or two.

I'm sure the mpix dudes don't have time, so maybe we should ask for volunteers who have the time, and energy to be a 'problem solver' moderator, for the forum. And if mpix deems it necessary, they can allow that person to speak for the forum on their behalf, and play forum cop.

We would all have to agree to abide by the rules set forth by the mod... who would only have our best intentions at heart.
 

All the world's problems are based on communication...either missed, or non-existent... Simple clear rules, and a procedure to fix problems the odd time they pop us is all that is needed...

As for me.. I'm off to Boston/NYC for the next 10 days, and then off to San Francisco on a photo trip at the end of July.. I will try to share my experiences as I go, but more in pictures than in words from now on....

last month, the concept of "falling on deaf ears" hit me loud and clear around here... So instead of trying to "bring back the love," I've come to the conclusion, that its time to try and create a different kind...

From scratch...

I would recommend you all try the same... and it starts with returning the focus to photography, and our art..... and stop talking about who said what, who knows who and worrying about personalities, instead of abilities.

That is how this place got so special, and probably the only way it will return to greatness...

 Stop gossiping, and start shooting.

It was "fun" and the "good old days" because every time we logged in, we saw the work of our contemporaries...fighting the same fight..learning ..growing....

So..by refocusing on the art we are all creating... maybe the focus/vibe of the forum can return as well..

They may be gone for good. There's been way too may "I'm new to photography and I have a wedding to shoot next Friday, Will my P&S camera work and how much should I charge?" post here lately. which usually leads to stupid arguements.

Hopefully things will change. We all have some work to do make this a happy place again.
