Same happened to me last year.
I went to buy a laptop computer, case, printer well, the whole kit and caboodle and only to find out my card was cancelled THREE day's before. THREE day's! Yea! Cancelled due to inactivity. I had to put that purchase under my Radio Shack card which totally sucked because of their interest rates. Not that it matters. I have a 100% payment record and all my cards got jacked up anyways. All the responsible card owners are pulling the slack for all those defaulting.
And to say it does not affect you is incorrect. It does affect you when a card is cancelled, When a card is canceleld it lowers the debt to available credit ratio available to you which in turn knocks down your credit score
If you re-apply, then chances are it will be handled by Chase. I have a Best Buy card and it is currently being handled by HSBC. However, I was notified about six weeks ago that my Circuit City card is being rolled over to Best Buy and that card is now being handled by Chase, not by HSBC. The letter I received stated the conversion would happen sometime within January/February of this year.

I'm not really a photographer, I just play one in real life.
Believe it or not, on some planets, I'm actually considered normal.
