Mine sort of fell into place, I was playing with different ways of saying my name and Becka-Jayne Photography just seemed to sound right. I've always loved the way my parents spelt my middle name so thats what it is.

Look at my web page and you'll know how I got my business name. As for "Koa", that is not my real name, but everyone started to call me "Warrior" all the time and really, I just was not cool with that, so I now use "Koa" as my professional name (warrior in Hawaiian).

i was in an "angel" phase when i first started photography. photoangel.  i thought it sounded pretty cool but my husband thought i was silly for choosing a business name when i didn't even have a business.  i stuck with it and now after 7 years i finally have a business. small but it brings in extra cash. is there anything that interests you?  throw out some things and maybe we can brainstorm with you.

My business name came after everything else...our email and website was already JnK McDaniel ( John and Kimberly McDaniel).  My husband went overseas, and used the website as a blog to me.  When he got home...i stole it to use as my photography website!  i do have to watch out, when i go outta town, they call me ink mcdaniel, so i have to make sure i put a big "J".  plus you have to explain what it means...

but i wouldnt change it now....People in the twin cities (150,000+ people) know that name.

    Thanks springshine! Big Smile

Originally I wanted Selah Photography, which I researched, finding a couple of definitions that Selah could possible mean - one was that it's a 'pause in the music' when you are to reflect on the music that's been played - or at least that's the way I understood it.  Anyway, there are already several Selah Photography's out there!

Re: How did you come up with your business name?

My wife picked Iris Photography out of the blue. The funny thing is that people come up with all sorts of things to attach it to. They will say, oh... Is that like the "Iris of the Eye"... We smile and say "sure" They also say, "Oh... because a camera has an iris".... Sure....

I also leave about three blocks away from a road names Iris Rd....

The only one that I say no to is when they ask if that what my daugters name (who is on yhe business card) is. But maybe the next one....

Re: How did you come up with your business name?

I like the word images for some reason.... Images by... (in fact that's mymyspace name still) Schreck is my new last name with my husband..I really wanted to use my maiden, since then men in my family won't get married, but he begged me.

Luckily Schreck is now recognizable, I just think people relate me to the big stinky ogre now...   :(   oh well and i think if they tell their friends and they search for my site they may look for Shrek.. and i may be losing business.

My name is Jane Bingham. My family called me Janie while I was growing up I used Janie then added B for my last name initial then made it into Bees   so Janie Bees Photography. However I have never been compoletely comfortable with it and have often thought of just using my name Jane Bingham Photography.

Well, I have a thing with the Letter "D" my name is Daphane and all my children begin with the letter "D".  When I started desktop publishing and wedding planning I decided on Da'Vine Designs & Creative Concepts and when my husband decided for us to go into business together and expand to photography on the photography end we just added Big Shot to his business cards.

You could be "Hamm it Up Photography"   Just a thought.  I'm a long way from starting my own business but am working in that direction.  I have a name already picked out though.  Good luck with everything. Stacy

I am somewhat in the same boat, I would love to use my name for my business name however, there are so many Michaels in the world and they all have cameras :)

Edit: Should qualify that I do use my name in general, but was refering more to a "web presence name" which I finally decided on yesterday :)

This is actually my first time to join the forum.  I have been a watcher for several months now, absorbing all the information that I could.  I actually used my middle name when picking out a name for my business.  Yeah, not original by all means, but has a nice ring to it....Grace Photography.

    Hello Miss Kelly,

I'm so glad you asked this question and can sympathize with your comments on using your name in a business name. I, too, am in the same situation as an aspiring Landscape/Travel Photographer. Try being a photographer with the last name 'Peek'. "That's a perfect name for photography!", likely say you and everyone in my circle. A bit too obvious and cliche, I say. A name I might be more apt to use if I were a portrait photographer. If you're looking at photos in National Geographic or Conde Nast, or see a fantastically scenic photo on a wall, Peek Photography wouldn't give me that powerful impression to match the photo.

    Status: I'm still pondering. :)

Does that mean I should not have replied? I just joined yesterday so I didn't see the question in 2006. The post is still active. If it's a dead post, then someone should change it to inactive. It was a relevant topic that many in my Women's Entrepreneur Meetup group have also brought up.

If Miss Kelly has named her business by now, which you don't know for sure she has, and she sees this string continue, I would love to hear what her result of inquiry was.

     Best regards,
