    Webhosting

For those who have websites, do you own your own server or use a hosting service? If you use a service, which ones? What do you think of them? I need to find some way of getting a site up.

I use www.ixwebhosting.com $97 or something like that for 2 years...

I used www.godaddy.com to purchase my domain name.

    Re: Webhosting

Can I ask why you didn't use godaddy for your hosting? I bought my name yesterday from them and got a call today thanking me. They e-mailed me the next step which is finding hosting service and plans they offer.  I was just curious. I'm at the very begining stages of a web-site. Thanks for any information.

    Merry Christmas

Hey Marjie, sorry I didn't see your question til now.  I really can't tell you why I didn't go with go daddy... I did a lot of reading on these forums and ixwebhosting seemed to be the one I "liked" with all the researching I was doing... Some people had problems with them, but what I think it boiled down to was that they did not have anything saved to their own computer... I don't know a lot about space and servers and what potential problems are for hosting sites... ixwebhosting has been good for me.

    Re: Webhosting

Thanks for your help. I believe ixwebhosting is one of the "ones" that was recommended by microsoft as supporting frontpage. My mom decided that's what she was getting me for Christmas(Frontpage that is). Her web site was created with that program and she wants me to learn it and then teach her so she can update her website. All this is new to me. I decided to go ahead and jump in with both feet and create me and my husband a website. For me that's the best way for me to learn is by doing. Thanks

    I'm real happy with Lunarpages

Their basic plan is plenty for almost anyone out there and very reasonable.

I use GoDaddy and have been very happy. Their customer service is great, so if you can't figure something out you can call and they will walk you through it. I didn't shop around so I don't know what anyone else has, though.

My husband runs a small web hosting service, customer service is great.    He charges $150/year but prefers to barter.  You can PM me if you want more info.

Thanks for the replies, I finally signed up for a plan. Now I need to determine my domain name .... I don't even know what I'm going to call this site. It's just a little showcase of my photography, nothing pro or anything .... any ideas anyone? I think Veloce would be too plain, and Veloce Photography could actually sound like a business and I dont really want to give that message, so I'm lost.

What about Veloce Images?  or something like that... still showing pictures and could potentially become a business name...

Ya I was thinking something with 'images', but maybe I might just go ahead with Veloce photography, dunno yet.
