    I want a build a personal website..please advice

My DH & I want to build a personal website.  We have checked out GoDaddy.com to purchase the domain name, but now we're not sure where to go to build the site.

Will you all please give us some advice on what you have used and if you like them.

    Thanks,

    PattyG

    Patty,

Could you please mention more about what you want the site to do?   and do you have any software background  or do you want someone to build one for you?

For some people blogs work well as a website -  easy to add content and up date without much coding involved.

Well the biggest question is what you plann to use it for Patty?  And if you want flash, etc....  I love my simple site, some dont like it, but it serves my purpose.  I had a forum member build it for me and included everything I needed, I havent updated it in a while since I have been out of work, but none the less, the grandmother loves it since she can log on and see the kids.  There are so many possiblities and ways to go, good luck.  I hope you and your husband find what you are looking for and can't wait to see the results!  BTW, what domain name did you go with, just curious!!

My husband just wants one for us to use for family and friends.  He's not much into blogging.  He has done a lot of computer programming.  He's an electrical engineer with Ford/Visteon Glass and has done a lot of programming robots.  So I know he can build it.  But he's not sure what online company to use to build it with.  He's checked out some, but I'm not sure which ones.  He's gone to the store, so I'll ask him when he gets back what all he wants to do with.

    Thanks, PattyG

I wish I knew what he is going to do with it.  I told him I would ask my forum buddies to give us some advice.  I think flash would be cool, but he isn't sure we need it.  So somebody please convince him.

We are looking at PatnGrant.com or something like that for a domain name.

When we get it built I'll be sure to let you all know where to find it.

HOUSE?? What House?  I haven't seen oneWink  You got one for sale or something?

We are meeting with the builder tomorrow to get the final bids and then when we get the money from the money man, we will get it started.  So I think the website will be done way before that imaginary house is.

We just want a simple site to post family pics, imaginery house project info and just general info about what's going on with us.  Something simple.  So who is a good site to host it?

    Thanks,
    PattyG

    Patty,

I know there will be lots of opinions on this, but I use godaddy.com and love it.  It was very inexpensive and their customer service was great when I was trying to get everything set up.  I haven't had any problems with the hosting end...just with motivating myself to finish mine. Embarrassed

    Patty,

I'm using parcom.net for hosting and I've used godaddy as well. I really like the support from parcom and their prices are very reasonable. They offer templates if you need them and lots of basic features.

OMG That's almost it.  I had something more Victorian in mind, but this is better than nothing.  ROFLMAO.  And she looks like me too, just a little too thin.  But where's the DH?  Oh, I remember, I left him in the motorhome.  I needed a good laugh about this house deal and that did it for sure.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions and the laughs.

    Hey Patty - nice house......Geeked

I use GoDaddy for all my sites.  The hosting is very inexpensive and they have GREAT tech support.   The signup process is extremely easy and they have multiple options for hosting plans.

Girl, that would work for me.  Especially the hot part.  But now that I am potentially buying a new house, I think I'm gonna need a full out loonie bin.  (To make a long story short, I drove by a place the day after Christmas while up in New England. Saw the sign.  The broker just happened to be there, and naturally, invited me in.  I fell in love. But I didn't want this to happen for a few months. I'm not even up there anymore.  I flew back to Virginia last night.   But I had a team go over and look at the property today.  Everyone loves it and thinks I should go for it.  I'm just wondering what I've gotten myself into.......)  But I keep getting these good omens about it.  When I heard back from the team today, they all had a chuckle that there were actual wild chickens in the back yard. (It backs up to a big conservation area).  That's pretty rare for a place on the coast that's 15 miles from Fenway Park.......It's just a simple, small cottage.  Beautifully restored.  But all my dream team talks about is its "expansion possibilities".......eeeekkkk!!!!!!!!  What's wrong with small?

It has two bathrooms that both need makeovers.  But the rest of it is in great shape.  The entire first floor is totally has been very well renovated into a "great room" type of place, with a huge deck that runs the length of the house.  The neighborhood is so super quiet that it seems more like Maine than Masachusetts.  (A good thing when there are numerous close relatives living within minutes). It's just perfect for me.  I don't know.......I just didn't think this transition could become a reality this fast.  So I'm kind of freaking out.  Buying the house will be way easier than selling this house.  Inevetable, but stressfull.  But you're right, this is quircky.  I was so proud that I did all my christmas shopping online, and a few local places.  I never went to a Mall.  Then the day after Christmas, I go for a drive to clear my head and end up buying a house!  How crazy is that?
