FYI, this technique was really popular in commercial photography back in the 80s.  Most of the food ads in the high end magazines have the light painted look.  There are even entire light painting lighting systems dedicated for this.  The most popular is (was) HoseMaster.  The system came complete with a power pack and different attachments to control the shape and quality of light.  Check it out at... http://www.calumetphoto.com/Studio/Continuous+Lighting/Hosemaster/

As I recall, these systems used to be in the thousands of dollars for a complete setup... I could be wrong though.  I only remember being shocked at how expensive those things were where a flashlight would do just as well.

I'm so glad someone started this thread.  I tried this the other night with my son.  Not really a formal picture but I was so happy at the possibilities this opens up. You can see the flashlight trail above his head.

I was actually lucky enough to get to play with one of these in college. They had the whole set up and it was a blast to use! Although, since we were using 4x5 color slides, it was very expensive!!! I ought to hunt my stuff down and scan it to see what you guys think.....

I love the dog on the couch behind your subject. That is a dog and not just the cushion isn't it?

Yes that is one of my dogs.  They know they aren't supposed to be on the furniture but sneak up there when I'm busy.

My husband and I took part in a big community wide event in Rochester last year called "The Big Shoot".  It's an annual event put on by RIT's photography department of different Rochester landmarks...and sometimes outside of Rochester landmarks.  Anyhoo...this is the art museum.  There was a huge crowd of people who all had flash lights covering the whole building.  It was pretty cool to be a part of...
