    Package Pricing & Seniors?

I developed some package pricing for seniors because people kept asking for package pricing. Now though, people want to exchange an 8x10 for wallets etc. and don't want to stick to the packages.

I'm realizing that people also want tons of wallets...so do I include that in packages or make them by wallets a la carte? Some people see me as expensive, and I know I'm extremely reasonable and I'm not making that much $, esp when one considers all the time put into the developing, & editing process, plus print cost. My sitting fee is $50 for 2 hrs, location/my place, and any # clothes changes. Should I add more wallets to my packags? People don't understand the difference between me, & a place like Sears so they expect that sort of pricing. Any thoughts on what to include & what not to include in packages? (I'm in a rural, small town btw, but most people have $..they're just stingy, lol)

This is a common question, and often run into when you start offering packages.  My opinion, create packages that work for a reason - packages that somehow drive sales while meeting a consumer need - and stick to them.  Then, use a la carte for supplemental stuff.  Or, allow for packages that complement each other... Let the customer by two different packages so that they get what they want, plus some extras.

Generally, once you start to allow clients to tinker with your print packages, any business advantage that the packages offered to you is lost.

Oh, and your prices sound pretty reasonable, even without having heard your print prices.  I'd stick to 'em and find a way to make it work.

    Good Luck!

    Re: Package Pricing & Seniors?

We have rarely offered print packages of any kind, for just this reason.  Everyone is different, and you'll never, ever find a package or pricing structure that keeps everyone happy.

The only kind of packages that we ever offer are session packages (ie. maternity and newborn two session package).  However, we have also found that seniors like to buy a lot of wallets.  In fact we had one senior girl buy 448 wallets (eight pictures, fifty-six wallets of each).

Our regular price for a sheet of eight wallets is $25.  But if they buy seven sheets of the same shot, it's $99.  In the case of the girl who bought 448 of them, we charged her a buck a piece.

We also give various discounts "on the fly".  If someone only buys $200 in prints, they pay full price.  If someone spends $2,000, you'd better believe we'll be throwing in some freebies.  ;)

Speaking of freebies, we almost always throw in a complimentary sheet of wallets from just about every session.  Reason being, wallets are something that have the chance of being seen by someone and getting you some business.  Whereas, the 8x10 hanging on the wall at home doesn't get seen by as many people.

    I LOVE that debate!

I chewed enough of my own finger nails off over it too....

In the end, I figured that either I would have to be hard core about my packages and add on-s... OR  what I went with...

I figured that I would have one package... of a set "print credit ammount" and let the customer buy off my online store.

There are just so many ways to do everything... Try to enjoy that freedom! :D
