    Magazine advertising

I recently took photos of my niece, and after my sister showed the photos to her friends, one of which is a real estate agent who also publishes their local real estate magazine.  Well, I understand she is particularily interested in one of the photos that I took, and is going to be contacting me about getting the photo in the largest JPG file I have to use in the magazine.  I'm VERY new in my business, I just started it in February of this year, so I'm wet behind the ears on most subjects, but this one in particular.   Does anyone have any advice on what kind of questions I would ask her and how do you figure out what you would charge?

thank you in advance for your guidance.

     Leann,

    Welcome.

Congrats on having someone wanting to buy your work.  For prices check the link on my siggy below.   but for now,  If this is your first inquiry,   ask them what they typically pay for photos.  $300 - 500 per photo is decent for your first one.

    Stdio64,

I hope it helps.  People try to treat companies like they are people.  usually, the company has bought photos before, so they will tell you if you ask.   It is not personal,  most will tell you their budget.

early on I had one  that went like this.

them:  How much for the stock photo?
me :  ( thinking hard)  it depends on the usage.
them: onetime usage.....  we usually pay $500 per photo.
Me :   I said that is fair.  $500

I looked the pricing up,   the range was $400-600  average $ 500!

Ask them.   their answer will tell you alot.
