    Help with my website

Hey guys, I'm comping a new website to replace the impossible-to-update monster that I created last time. Can you guys go look at it and tell me whether or not you can see the navigation frame at the bottom or not?

Also, just any general thoughts on the concept are appreciated. It's not horribly original, but I want to showcase my images more than I did on my previous site.

    Thanks!

Sorry!! I forgot to post the link: http://www.tsandersphoto.com/

    Hi!
I went to it (altho providing the link would have made life easier, but its under your profile anyway)

I liked that it loaded quickly.

I think you probably need to change the size/font of the intro text ( I need to do this too and have no clue how) and watch where the sentences land.  For instance, don't be afraid to hit enter, and make sure each sentence that is important, starts on its own line. Its easier for people to read and highlights that new info is there. If the sentence starts midway thru one line and goes midway to the next, I skip it a lot of the times, thinking its just BS info I dont' need.

I like your images, you have a nice, colorful, crisp look to your portraits.

The slideshow galleries could use a sentence of insturction for the less computer savvy customers. Some people do not know that the triangle at the bottom will start the slideshow.

Also, when I see slideshows, I always think they need music. If it were just a click and move gallery, it doesn't 'need' it so much, but slideshows, IMO, benefit from music.

I looked briefly at your pricing. You are way better than what your price point is but I am really tired of that discussion, so I will drop it.  Make money or dont'. Your choice. Invariably, people have tons of reasons why they are charging so cheaply, be do be aware...you are inexpensive compared to the quality of your work.

Best of luck with it all!!

Dang! I knew I was forgetting something. That's my old website, the new one is here: www.tsandersphoto.com . It's just a comp, so the links don't actually work. I'm just trying to get my concept complete so I can start building pages.

By the way, I agree about the prices, and they'll be going up mid-year. Oklahoma is one of the lowest cost-of-living states though, so they'll probably never be the same as what would be a fair price in the New England area.

    Re: Help with my website

Very nice pictures and I like the color scheme.

On thing you might want to think about is standard screen resolution.  w3schools.com says:

"The current trend is that more and more computers are using a screen size of 1024x768 pixels or more:"

[Edit - previous format did not come out right]

For January 2007, Screen resolutions sizes of people visiting w3schools website:
    Unknown   - 6%
    640x480    - 0%
    800x600    - 14%
    1024x768  - 54%
    Higher       - 26%

Your homepage spans 1683+ pixels - far more than 1024.  So, for at least 68% of your visitors (and probably far more), they have to scroll horizontally to see everything.  Even on my relatively wide 1600 px screen, I have to scroll a little bit.  Common convention is to not have your users scroll horizontally, so you may want to redesign to be a bit less wide.

Only other thing I noticed was that your background color on the Welcome image is slightly different than the tables background.  Not necessarily bad, but if you wanted it to match, may need to fix that.

Thanks for the ideas, Coach - I hadn't noticed the color difference, but I definitely see it now.

About the side-scrolling thing, that's actually intentional, so I'd like everyone's thoughts about it. Is it just plain annoying, or is it a workable idea? On my gallery pages especially, I plan to have 10-15 images aligned horizontally.

This is not my original idea by any means, I stole it shamelessly from Kim Jew here: www.kimjew.com . His didn't used to be in flash, it was an html site with side scrolling on just the galleries.

     I appreciate everyone's opinions.

Terrell.. when I open the site.. I have to scroll to the right to see all of it... and I can NOT click on anything to go anywhere... if it is below the photos... can't see anything.. sizing is problem I think.... I am on a regular size screen.. not extra wide...

    Terrell,

Your work is really good!  I have to agree with Coach - the side scroll thing is just not web friendly.   It's definitely different from what people are used to seeing, which I can understand could be a good thing, but I think it's too far off the web standard norms for people to accept it.  I think most people would just be annoyed by it and not stick around long enough to figure it out.

Writing the site to the 1024 width is your best bet for user friendly-ness for your site to make it the most useful for all browsers.
