    need help with bw conversion

    Hi Everyone!

When I print out my black and white, it has a red tint to it.  It looks good on the screen but not the print.  How can I adjust to get true b&w or at least get rid of the red.  I know I need to calibrate my monitor, but I just got it and I don't have anything to set it with.  I need the pic today.

I'm still pretty new at this, so please make it simple.  I have photoshop 7 that I have been using.  I can send the picture if it will help.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Red tint means there is left over color in your image, even you don't see it.
    Image -> mode -> grayscale
that will get rid of any color there, as well as
Image -> adjustment -> desaturate (or simply press together Shift + Ctrl + U)

How are you doing conversion to BW? You most likely need to change your workflow so there won't be any color left.

    Hi Tomas,

I did change to grayscale and had used the desaturate.  That is how I converted to the b&w.  Then I set the levels where I wanted them.

If I sent this to Mpix, I would get the true b&w.  But, I need this today.  It is a picture of my daughter for a photogenic contest.  It's the best one I have of her (close up).  (This is just a hobby for me but I love photography).

I will sent the picture to see what you think.

Well, if you have removed all color on the computer, and it looks good on the screen, then the only thing left is the printer... When you go to print it, make sure you select Grayscale (some will let you select Black Only) on your print properties...

    Hope this helps...!

    Thanks,  I'll try that now.

How does the picture look?????   This is just for a small town contest and I'm no pro.

Well, I'm not much help in the way of people pics... but your conversion looks good. The tones and gradients look good, plenty of detail in the shadows and highlights...

    It looks good to me!

I like it, the catchlights are beautiful and those eyes soooo deep...and the conversion looks good on my screen as well!
