And since I felt like I wasn't focused where I wanted to be, I tried again. Here are some roses at my neighbor's house. Please excuse the satellite dish. And tell me if I am even on the right track too please.

Thanks Eric. Any idea why I had trouble getting the windchimes in focus? (They're back a page and were my first attempt at this lesson.)

My guess is primarily because the chimes were probably moving.  If you look at the fence on the same plane as the chimes, it's pretty sharp.

What I was meaning is that the photo looked too light to me. Here is an example of my second try using just AV mode. See I can control the light (expoosure) when I am shooting in manual, but I am not getting it using the AV mode. Does this make sense?

The real reason AV is not working for you is that you have Your Exposure Copmpensation set for +1 so your camera is over exposing in AV (orTV mode for that mater) by 1 full stop. reste it to Zero.

Exposure Compensation does not work in Manual Mode on Canon's so that is why you get better exposures using manual Mode.

See you camera's manual for how to reset your exposure compensation or come back and ask

Ok, here is my assignment. I think I understand. I can see the differences in the depth of the focus of the images.

Ok so today was the first chance I have gotten to take any shots (I just discovred this AWESOME forum yesterday). Unfortunately I had to work all day and then it was raining when I got home so I had to shoot in the house.  I know they aren't great, but I just stuck to the rules.

Many of us have had the last image go blurry in our shots... I just wanted to put a short explanation to ensure we all understand. As you change you F number to a HIGHER number...the Shutter speed gets LONGER..... (how rude). So hand holding that puppy gets more and more difficult. So remember, if you are increasing the shutter speed in this assignment.. tripods are nice. As we go on through the assignments, we will learn how to avoid this problem... again...don't worry about it now, but I wanted to make sure you know its nothing you are doing "wrong" and your camera is not broken, we just need how compensate for that low shutter speed.. Coming soon.. Gtrman

I'm a nikonian myself, but I know people who are looking at that amea, and there is always someone saying how they love thier 40D.  I have nearly that same lens though.  It has 10mm wider, but no IS, so an even trade.  You'll have a lot of fun with it.  And this is the place to learn.

I already read the manual and i watched the videos of The Nerd Husband who has same camera. Some videos of his shows the menu and some really cool options of the camera. I really feel myself ready for it.
