Solid Background Editing for Photoshop Elements 6...Please Help!!

When taking portrait photos of newborns against a black or white background (fabric), when editing the digital pictures, how can I easily make the background look solid where you don't see color variations & wrinkles in the fabrics? I want it to look like they're floating in a way! I'm using Photoshop Elements 6. I've tried erasing the background & creating a plain black duplicate layer, but it doesn't crop precise enough around the bodies. There must be an easier/better way. Any advice is welcome....I'm just learning! Thanks!! Smile

make a duplicate layer, do the levels adjustment (ctrl L), move the bars until the background turns solid black and erase the baby so that the background is black and the baby is the original layer.

I shot on navy fleece and made the background black in photoshop for a couple of my infants.

"Self-imposed limitations can be as crippling as debt. Photographers who have convinced themselves that clients won’t pay what is a reasonable price for their photography, often are merely projecting their own self-limiting values, but this can be a critical business mistake. A businessperson must be confident that he or she is providing value to clients, and that clients, in turn, will exchange that value for their hard-earned money. If this confidence is lacking, it is difficult to become successful in business......." because if you do EVERYTHING else right you are still DOA if you don't see the value of your work

It would be best to post a sample pic of each so we can get an idea how far the image has to go to get the desired effect.

Sounds to me like your problem isn't with photoshop - it's with your shooting. Black is super easy. Placed about 4 feet behind your subject the light fall off should make it solid black without have to do any photoshopping. White backgrounds need more complex and precise lighting techniques to acheive.
