Thanks for the complements. Tomorrow is Father's Day & I'll be able to be with my dad, not at the ocean but at the lake. I lost my mom last year & it's still so hard for him. They were married for 63 years. I hope that you all still have your dads & are able to be with them.

JessE, I love the daisy (my favorite flower) print!

Luna, or anyone else knowledgable and willing....

I feel like a big huge idiot asking this, but could a tutorial be done on layer masks? I have tried, and tried, and tried again to figure it out, and I'm having no luck. I use the eraser, but sometimes it's too harsh and obvious. I followed your instructions, Luna, but I get stuck/lost on the layer masks.

    Thanks in advance!

erin, what editing program are you using?  If full PS, you're fine, if you are using elements, there are no layer masks per say, but you can download layermasks at shutterfreaks.com, for each version.

Let us know what you are using so we can help

Amy, Thank you sooo much for sharing!   I've been playing around with the texture overlays and opacities/blends for a while but I really love the look of the second texture layer for the edges.  Your creations are absolutely lovely and you are very kind to share with us all! Smile

You can also find more textures on your program cds such as CS3.  They are usually included in the EXTRAS of the installation disk.  Another great resource for textures (plus fonts, brushes, etc) is Advanced Photoshop magazine.  It comes with a bonus disk packed with goodies!!!  The magazine is available at most major booksellers and some Costco stores (same price at all).

Thank you for this tutorial. I used a texture from Michelle Black and followed your instructions. I think I did it right. I didn't know how I was going to pull this off and I was so happy when I saw this post. Here's a pic of my son. I haven't attempted the letters yet.

    Velia,
This picture is so beautiful.  Did you just  add the texture, or did you do more work to it to make it look this way?

    Re: A guide to "Texture"

Okay I played around with different pictures and the texture.. but here is the one that I liked best.

I did this little girl's session on Tuesday morning and she was so fun just to watch her go... I did her pictures at christmas and she was so shy but now what a personality!

I played around with several brushes and got the texture that I wanted and then added a frame to make it look like a negative... Thanks again for the lesson... it really helped get my creative juices flowing.

    Thanks!

I can post the texture if anyone wants it....

I love this and I have sent it to so many friends!  Thanks for sharing.  I downloaded the touch of whimsy, and I really like all of the textures. I am wondering though how do you use all of them especially the trendy flower ones? Any ideas?

    Re: A guide to "Texture"

the font is scriptina.. I love the loops in it very artsy & carefree... but be careful with it --- some words get a bit too loopy with it. You just have to test them out to see.

Here is the texture you requested... thanks for the compliments!

Ree, I liked the softness of your texture & thought that It might work well with a picture that I took of my daughter. What do you think? Thanks for sharing!

    Re: A guide to "Texture"

     Rita,

I am flattered that you used the texture for your daughter's image. It is gorgeous by the way.

just curious? Is that your daughter's name on the pic? Or did you print my name on there...  just in case you did not know first name is SherĂ (french pronunciation with the accent of course) but most people call me Ree.

But I have noticed quite a few Sheri's on this board with the traditional American pronunciation. It is always odd to me to see the spelling like that because my whole life my name has been misspelled (along with mispronounced  --- I thank my Mom for that one ALOT!!!) And I didn't think there were that many Sheri's out there!

If I am rattling on I am sorry.. either way I am flattered you used the texture. Great shot by the way!

how did you get her picture to blend into the texture so smoothly?

Ree, Yes that is my daughters name. What a coincidence that your name is Sheri & spelled the same as my daughter. This is a picture that I took last year but was just experimenting with the color blend mode.

Larsonteam, I used a layer mask & reduced the opacity of the texture.

    The Luna Vine:

But there are some fantastic resources on the web such as www.textureking.com and here - http://pifphoto.com/?p=546 (pay it forward blog...) the blue texture and the original texture came from the "touch of whimsy" download.  They aren't mine, but I am just sharing for this tutorial.  They are websized - you can find the full size images in these links.

Luna Vine- I went to pifphoto.com and the "touch of whimsy" download is no longer available...could you post is for the mpixers?

Awww, I am sorry they removed that.  But no, it is not my set, so I can't offer it for download! Sad

neophyte, maybe I shouldn't speak for Amy, but that probably wouldn't be a good idea since it's not her work to share.  YOu might be better off to email the poster on PIF, and ask for them to send it to you, or whether you or Amy could have permission to repost it.
