Making eye pop in a picture

I was wondering how you make eyes pop out in a picture. I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Paint Pro.

    Thanks:)

There are some great tutorials out there. Lots on here have purchased LaDairs cds. Try a search and see what you come up with. I think the nerds husband also has some tutorials on some different things of his blog. check them out, there are several different techniques out there you will just have to play until you find what you like.

I use a Photoshop Action that I purchased from MCP Actions, link provided below:

It cost $38 and works wonderfully. It can be used in PS Elements too.

Hi Great question. Use the dodge tool to lighting the white of the eyes. Select the entire eye and increase the contrast or brightness (using levels) Good luck Rick p.s. some more photo tips in my new book, Face to Face. Mpix members get a special discount. In the Jibz glamour and grunge 80 actions kit there is a very quick eye pop action and there is a more complexe two step version that allows you to adjust the highlights and the dakk circle around the eye and the pupil.
Plus loads of other actions starting at just 29.99

I dont know if I am the best one to answer this, as I still have a lot to learn, but I too use elements 5, and this is what I do to make the eyes pop:

    I duplicate the layer twice.

I make the top layer so it is invisible, as I work on the middle layer.

On the middle layer I boost the contrast and sometimes brightness

Then I sharpen that layer twice at least by going to "enhance" and "unsharpen mask". Ignore the rest of the pictures and just look at the eyes, the other part of the picture will look way to sharp, but the eyes will look good.

After I have made those changes I make the top layer visible, and then I choose the eraser tool.  Zoom up. Choose a soft eraser brush and erase the eyes from the top layer.

There you have it, they eyes are sharp and pop...one thing I did learn though is when you take a picture, make sure to focus in on the eyes,  it really helps with the outcome of the picture.

Here is a before and after:
