For those of you who have a Nikon D80 with the 18-135 mm kit lens, how are you liking it?  How is the quality of the pictures?

Love my D80, but the kit lens is slower and a bit soft.  Spoiled myself with a 50mm f/1.4 and a 70-200 f/2.8.  I do like the range of the 18-135.  Are you looking for speed or range?  If you're main area of photography is kids, I'd opt for a fast lens.  Even the nifty fifty is worthy (50mm f/1.8, about $100).  I thought you were sticking w/ Canon?  Feel free to "come over from the Dark Side".  hahaha!

The D80 is a great camera, and a solid performer. I got the 18-135 with mine also but I never really use it because it is too slow for my liking. 

I love my D80, but don't use the kit lens anymore.... my favorite is the 50mm 1.4, but also like the 18-200 VR.... I think that VR makes a huge difference in my hand held shots... I have gotten more consistently sharp images since I've switched lenses. It was a fine starter lens for me, but I would never recommend anyone purchase it separately. JMO.... others may feel differently :)

 Love my D80, but I didn't get it with the kit lens. 

I'm really lusting after the D700 now though.

I love my D80! I did not get the 18-135 with mine but I do love my 50mm
