    Laptop Designed for Photographers

Remember, it is all about image. You don't have permission to "play" with mine unless I specifically say so.

Does anyone really work with AdobeRGB anyway since with photos you are basically going to convert it to sRGB anyway?  As far as true functionality, all of the real tests out there show that AdobeRGB gives you no better control or improvements in your work flow or images and the "it is better" statements are purely marketing push by Adobe itself...

I like the idea that it has a built in graphics tablet and the other features, although pretty much any operating system you put on it may have a hard time even using the memory that they say it will have.  I'll bet that thing costs a bundle, though.

-I shoot with a canon...I find I can do more damage that way.

That is a lot packed into a small package, I still think that calibrating a viewing device that is used in constantly varying lighting conditions is a waste of time. |c

Please do not "play" with my photographs. This is only here because people do not have enough respect of others work to ask first.

Cool   but Did you see the price!
And people talk about Macs being expensive. I would really have to think about this one before I spent those dollars, heat is going to be a big issue and I am not sure how long before stuff starts to fail from it. The laptop I would like to see Apple do is a ruggedized version of the MacBook Pro like the Toughbooks. A company was doing it but I don't know if they are still around. |c

If you are running the full version of Photoshop or are running a RAW editor like ACR or Lightroom, watch your resource consumption on your computer as you do various tasks.  You will see that the processor is almost never tapped out except when fully loading multiple images.  However, the RAM saturates very rapidly.  Buy 8GB RAM (or more if you work with 16-bit medium format / 1Ds Mk III images) for just about any computer, and you have just made yourself a "photography laptop" and at a fraction of the cost.

I am converting over to apple ASAP, but am making an educated guess to wait and see what comes out after Sept 15 ( when the itouch promo ends)

I agree, the more I looked at apple the more I noticed how the price is not bad for what comes built into each machine.

    Jim,

I am  assuming you are talking about  64 Bit versions of XP Pro or Vista because the 32bit versions are limited to 4 GB of RAM ( no matter how many sticks you put in there) and there still would only be 3GB available for  a program if you have the 3GB switch on..other wise it pretty much allocates 50/50 for OS and programs

Yes.  Sorry.  I also do a lot of work in Linux on 64-bit systems.

I am still surprised that many new computers are only shipping with 2GB of RAM.  That is entirely too little with Photoshop.  4GB should be the standard people look for or upgrade to on non-64 bit systems.

Yeah,I agree Jim, Unless I was just doing E-mail, I don't think I would order any Vista system with less then 4GB

I think a lot of it has to do with the computer manufactures are hoping that many will buy additional upgrade when purchasing the computers online.  (You know the spill, you call em up and tell em you want model # xxxxxxx and first thing the sales rep will ask you is do you want to upgrade for additional $$$....they know exactly what they are doing...And ought to be slapped for trying to sale a computer that is under resourced before it leaves the production floor!!!!!!)  As far as the computers sold through retailers, I am sure this is part of the plan as well.  Anyone and their mother would know that you would need more than 2 GIGs of RAM to run VISTA on any machine, and if you still run XP, you would need more than 1 if you plan to do anything besides starting the pc up and running a few other programs.
