Tell me what you think. Is it too plain?

It doesn't look very professional.  Your logo says a lot about your business.  It's worth every penny investing in a graphic designer to design your logo!  I had marathon press design mine, but there are tons of qualified people that will produce a logo that does say "amateur".

I like your color choice on the pink, however, the logo is not catching my eye.  I've seen some nice one's done with initials (J K Photography).  Then maybe a circle around the initials or something like that if you like simple.  I'm sure some others will have great ideas.

    What software are you using?

As a marketing specialist and a photog let me say that advertising and photography are about emotion.  Your logo as well as your work must grab people if you expect them to come to you and buy your work.  If you would like you can PM me and I would be glad to help you with your design for a reasonable price.

I would try making your name in the font above, and the photography in a different font.  It will help space out the words so the eye focuses a bit easier. It is slightly hard to read right now. I do like the pink, but maybe try to tie in the green by turn 1/3 of the card green? Just one solid block of color.

When you make a logo keep in mind it has to look good big or small and in black and white or color. I save my logos as transparent PNG, and also a copy in PSD format, this way I can use the whole thing or just parts of it depending on what I need it for. Stick to web safe colors, no more then 3 and no more then 2 different fonts. This will help keep it simple and clean lined. Avoid drop shadows and large stroke lines around letters, they may look good large but when made smaller for business cards they will look blurry. I did add a 1px stroke around the pink letter but not drop shadow.

Here's a quicky logo using the colors you had but web safe versions.

Having faster lenses or fancy camera bodies doesn't make you a better photographer. It just means your crappy images will now be sharper and shot in lower light.

    Re: My new logo

I will email you the PSD file which has everything on seperate layers so you can change colors or customize it more if you want to, I will also send the transparent PNG. Since you use CS2 you can easily make a brush, but a brush will only be one color, which ever color you choose in the color palette. If you want to use it with all the colors shown you will have to slide the PNG file over your image, resize it then flatten. If you want to save either of the files to a JPEG, just flatten them then SAVE AS JPEG in the drop down menu.

To make a brush in PS2 open your PNG file, desaturate it until there's no color left, then go to brightness/contrast and slide the contrast to the right until all the text is black then go to:

Edit/Define Brush Preset, then a box pops up, name the brush and close out the PNG but DO NOT SAVE or you will save it as a black and white, just close it out. Now go to your brush palette and it will be the last one in there. Pick a color and stamp your logo on an image.

I'm sending both files in a zip folder. What's your email address?
