2008-2009 wedding trends? Colors, flowers & flower girls.

For those of you in the wedding photography business and/or the wedding gown business (Mike!), what do you see as the current color, flower and flower girl trends?  I'm doing a commercial shoot that will include flower girls and I'd love any advice regarding bouquets/baskets, headpieces, dress styles and popular wedding party colors.  I'm looking for overall trends, not super trendy trends.  Do flower girls even carry those little baskets of petals anymore or do they all carry bouquets?  Do the flower girls usually more closely match the bride or the bridesmaids now?

The last few weddings I have done/been to/been in the flower girls have their own little dresses, not usually like the brides more like the bridesmaids. I have seen alot of little girls having a similar bouquet rather than a basket. My brother recently got married and the flower girl had a little flower "ball" type thing that she just carried with a bright dress will flowers all over it. (not like the bride or brides maids) I think that flower girls are becoming more like mini brides maids rather then mini brides like they used to be.

So far this year I have seen a TON of black. "Black" flowers, bridesmaids dresses, table linens, black damask patterns all over the place.  It seems to be quite trendy in my area to have a black and white wedding with a bright accent color like hot pink or red.

Flower girls so far this year have not actually been throwing petals.  One wedding had them carrying the ball like bouquets(seen these on a few bridesmaids also) and 2 others have just had them walk down flowerless.  They are still dressed in white or cream dresses though.  One bride had ten flower girls!!! Another had four, so I am wondering if the quantity is trendy also...

A lot of bridesmaids are wearing a greenish color with a yellow or cream sash.

The biggest flower girl trend I've noticed is no flower girl.

From what I see here on mpix, the big trend is the white strapless dress with red trim.

I hate the dress with the red!

I have done several weddings this year with gerbera daisy bouquets.  Black dresses and colorful gerbera daisies.  Mostly my flowergirls have white dresses with a sash to match the bridesmaids.

The biggest trendy trend type thing is a mini-me thing for the flower girl - same exact dress as the bride.  Personally, *blech*

Otherwise,  I wouldn't single anything out...  Little girl, white/ivory dress (although sometimes the colors of the bridal party), basket of petals.

    Thanks so much to everyone!

I'm doing work for a national upscale children's clothing store that carries some popular flower girl dresses.  So, I'm stuck with certain dresses to photograph, but I need to accessories them so they look like something a current bride would suggest for her flower girl.

I was fitting a model tonight with a white dress that comes with almost any color of sash to match the wedding colors.  They also sell little petal baskets, tiaras and halos.  I'll probably just do some of each and order some small bouquets with popular flowers.

I'm shooting 7 children and there will be two little sets of pre-school flower girls/ring bearers.

Oh, I've photographed that set of dresses.  The daughter of the bride wore the same dress as mom, the David's Bridal strapless dress with the red trim!

I'm going to do the dress with the sash for sure, now.  The Gerbera daisy bouquets sound wonderful!

Sounds like maybe I should have one of those little "balls" made up too!

I second this... but this is worse: black trim on the bride's dress! My step-niece has that dress, she's getting married in September. UGH.

As far as trends, I've seen a lot of brown--brown with ice/baby blue, brown with pink, brown with green... definitely brown!

It's funny....trends are all over the place.  We see much different stuff here than we do when we shoot in Tulsa.  Different locales have different trends.

Brown is huge in North Carolina.  Of the 15 weddings I've seen this year, at least 10 of them included brown in the color scheme.  I've seen pink and brown, green and brown, and blue and brown.

Gerbera daisies have been popular here also.

in all of my weddings this summer, it's either been brown , sage or a few weekends ago it was fusia! (for the brides maids)

all flower gils have been white- only a few resembled the bride completely....

Flower girls I've seen have been in white.  Not like the bride's dress though.  Some have had the petals in a basket and some have had the bouquets. It's funny, when they have the petals, they spill them all over, LOL.  Poor little things.

    Thanks everyone!

I've heard that brown is a big color around here for weddings.  I've also heard gray, which cracks me up because I thought I had the only wedding where my color was gray.  Yes, I'm weird, but this was 15 years ago, too.  Our reception looked like a 25th anniversary party in silver and ivory.

I did a fitting at the store for one of my little models last night and they had this beautiful pumpkin colored sash that really won me over, as well.

I have two more model  fittings tonight and three tomorrow.  These kids are just beautiful and so sweet.  The little girl last night wanted to take the flower girl dress home and also wanted to go home with me.  Just one more flower girl, I think.  Then, the big shoot on the 6th and 7th.  I'm praying for a dry weekend that weekend!

Will your images be used for a certain time frame? If you pick the pumpkin right now, will it be because you are ready for the fall colors now? I'm just picturing this great fallish image that you LUV right now being used in a spring ad campaign...just a thought...
