Read a helpful tip thought I'd share (I request we kill this thread!!!!!!!)

Recently I was viewing portraits on Flickr and read this caption under a child's photo

the photographer said they read it somewhere and started to use it as well when photographing children it helps to bring a pocket of goodies (candy treats) it tends to bribe the child into cooperating HEHE it actually doesn't sound like a bad idea in that particular pose the photographer said they gave the child candy b-4 shooting and got some really great facial expressions and they were great believe me.

That has been talked about on here before.  Personally, I wouldn't want to bribe a kid with candy, at least not without asking first.  I've given kids brownies or cookies before, but only with permission and only after a session was over.  I've found if you give kids food before starting something, they going to expect it the entire time.  I actually had a mom when I was starting out that gave her kids candy, and they begged and begged the entire time.  Not fun!

Shelly you did mean RESEMBLE right ? lol I hope you don't mean RESENT Hmm

Thanks for clarifying the b-4 the shoot Wendi definately something that makes perfect sense

I believe the shot I saw was in India or somewhere like that of a child in the street so I'm sure he/she had the surprised look on the face but that would tie in to STRANGER DANGER LOL wouldn't Shelly so don't anyone randomly go up to a child in the U.S.A and try this you may get much worse results than you had hoped for (like being arrested) Sad

Just be very careful that the kid/kids don't have any allergies you need to be careful of before you pass out treats to them. If someone gives my son a treat with peanuts in it, he will die. Seriously!

I actually had a really good response with this, but it was my friend's kid and she was the one giving the m&m to get a kiss from him... let me see if I can dig it up...

OK, here it is.  She's holding in her hand in a fist on her chest :)

    Yeah, RESEMBLE .........LOL!

I agree with Wendi on this one. For example  my oldest can not eat chocolate anything..........he would be bouncing off the walls and his behavior will be out of control. It took me awhile to figure out why he was acting that way. He still can not have chocolate.

We have diabetes  on both sides of the family............so candy or snacks are just out of the question.

I suggest that everyone eat before they do their shoot. It helps. I also have a giant big screen tv,  I  turn on their favorite show, cartoons...etc..It keeps the siblings busy and entertained. That seems to be working well.

So candy would be a bad idea with someone else's kids. Now if that works with your own kids....by all means.

Food is a terrible thing to bribe a child with... It is done a lot, so I'm not blaming anyone.. but a better choice would be a toy bucket or something else. I'd be pissed if someone gave my kid a brownie, or handful of m&m's and sent them home with me..

I promise I didn't want to come off harsh or start an arguement.. just sharing my opinon.

You want facial expressions? Give them "Tear Jerkers" candy. Now that would be funny!

i would assume some would disagree and that is just fine with me, it's great to be able to post our thoughts and feelings and also be able to disagree with one another :-)

I fully believe in positive re-enforcement, just not "bribing"....just my feelings...and this could and shouldn't open up a new can o worms....

I have a toy chest when I do studio work that is filled with junk from Oriental Trading Post.  Wroks well and isn't candy but they only get something after the session and only if they are good.
