Cost for 1 Day Photoshop Class

I've been looking all over for a local class on Photoshop because I learn so much better in a hands on environment.  Well, I located one that is an 8 hour course.  It's a Level 1 course but I still think I can learn a whole lot from it since I'm so new to using PS.  Anyway, the course is $350 but that also includes 6 months of online training and a 6 month retake policy (whatever that means).

So, does that price sound about right?

    seems a little high.

If they pack in the teaching,  you won't retain most of the later parts  it can get intense....

Heck, WE on the  Mpix forum   give 8 months of online training ( 2 months more)   for the same amount of money! (  right everyone Wink)

Your fee includes your future! price accordingly.....

I don't know... Since they let you retake the course as a refresher after six months, you're getting quite a bit.  You'll never retain everything, but the second go-round is a huge help.

Have you looked into auditing a college class?  Schools vary, but auditing can be ridiculously cheap.  It just may be hard to find someone with a class that'll focus on Photoshop...

Edited to add: Any chance you've got a link for us?  Seeing what the course hopes to accomplish may help to get an idea of what it's worth...

I also checked the continued ed classes at the University of Alabama Huntsville and they do not have anything based solely on Photoshop.  Like you said, it's more about Graphic Design, etc., which would be cool actually.

I'm going to check some of the local community colleges and also ITT Technical Institute just put in a campus in the very same building I work in and they open this Fall.  They may have something.  Everything I find about PhotoShop is Chicago.  Adorama is actually giving some I think.  Unfortunately I can't just drive to Chicago.

Re: Cost for 1 Day Photoshop Class

The closest person to me, that I know of, would be Luna.  She's 6 hours away.  She'd be an awesome teacher.  But when you factor in a hotel and gas and all that's gonna be more and $350.  Now I want to take my daughter to the beach this Fall so if I do that and could spend a day with her while I'm there then that would be uber cool.

Just FYI, I'm NOT going to spend $350 for that class.  I thought that was a bit much and that's why I asked the question to see if I was undercutting what they should cost.  I also noticed that there is a report about that school on Ripoff Report; however, it's in a state up north and not this particular school here.

I think $350 is a bit high, if it is a New Horizons class make him an offer of around $200 which is more in line with the going rate for classes like that. Also ask about the instructor and how much Photoshop experience they have. New Horizons has a habit of handing someone with little or no practical experience a book and then has them teach the class. They do not pay their instructors very much so it is hard for them to get and keep quality people. Yes I did teach for them for awhile until I got tired of not making any money. |c

I agree with Mike if it focused on Photography.   the class outline looks more geared towards  graphics.  -  which is great  but not alot to help a photographer.

Have you played with the scott Kepby books yet?

Re: Cost for 1 Day Photoshop Class

I joined NAPP a while back and it has some great tutorials.

I knew Scott Kelby had some Digital Photography books but does he also have some on Photoshop?  I know he's an Editor for the Photoshop magazine that comes with NAPP membership.

Cort, that's an idea.  I may try to see if they would be willing to reduce the cost and also check the credentials of the teacher.

Big Smile  If you're game, I'll talk to my husband and see if I can get him to comply.  It would be somewhere between October 4 and October 12.  That's when she's out on Fall Break.

Re: Cost for 1 Day Photoshop Class

New Horizons is a franchise so they are all run a little differently, the group I taught for as an outside contractor was always wheeling and dealing on price, some people were paying as low as $160 for a one day class. This was about three years ago in my area. Also ask which version of the software they are teaching. As for the course being aimed at photographers or designers it really isn't aimed at anyone but rather just a general course on the program. |c
