    Something Else Sundays

Most people here do portrait/senior/wedding photography, in an attempt to mix things up some and give those photographers a chance to work on other skills some of us wanted to try a day devoted to posting images that are not portrait/senior/wedding photography.

This is not an assignment with a topic or a contest, we already have those, it is some encouragement to get a variety of images in the critique area and to get some of you to go out and push your creativity by shooting new and different things.

The instructions are simple, post any non portrait/senior/wedding photograph. It can be shot anytime and it can include people as long as it isn't a portrait/senior/wedding photograph. Put "SES" at the beginning of the subject line so we know and try to post these on Sundays. If you post please try and comment on other's SES images and try to do more than "I like this shot," explain why you do or don't like it and what you might have done differently.

    thanks, cort

John/Matt if you like this idea could you pin it at the top in Critiques.

LOL you mean there are other types of pictures besides, portraits, seniors and weddings!  NO way!  JK but I really had to stop and think about what that could be!  Does it mean no people?  Just landscapes, pets or still shots?  Or , can it be candids of people?
The way we choose to respond when others make mistakes can cause them to feel ashamed or can allow them to remember our kindness and share our stories with future generations.

Its nice to see a positive suggestion for something that has been troubling me about this forum.  The content of this board is heavily weighted to cute children and pretty brides, rather than a wide range of photography.

Every internet message board, regardless of subject, has its own mood and informal themes.  The children and brides overload is simply how that informal theme appears here.. I do not post nearly as much as I would, though, if there was broader content here.  I'm sure the same is true for other photographers not in the children and brides genre.

They can have people, an example would be a sports photo, as long as they are not one of the above listed. |c

SES was not only a good idea, but the practical result was great as well.    Kudos to Cort for his suggestion.

I luv SES!  It makes me look for something other than friends and family to photograph. I don't consider my self creative but this makes you think!  Thanks again,  Toni

...but I don't take photos of people (other than my kids)....so taking pictures of people IS something different for me!
