  • Product Photography Lighting question

Hello everyone. I've been reading this site for a long time, but have never posted before. I've learned a good deal from everyone's experiences. I have a question now, that I know has been asked in different ways before. I've researched the different threads on this subject, but figured...

  • Re: suggestions on alien bees and such

Thank you everyone for your input. I have decided to order the AB800 with the 13' stand and the giant soft box. I shoot with a Nikon D70 and have just upgraded to the D300 (haven't shot with it yet, but will as soon as I get the chance) . So looks like I have ordered everything I need to start...

  • family portraits with one softbox

I need some ideas for upcoming family portraits. A couple of things that I'm concerned about is composition and glasses glare-- I only have one Alien Bee 800 with a giant softbox. I will be shooting candids at a birthday party for a 100 year old grandmother and family and friends. The client also...

  • Introudcing the Mpix - Alien Bees - Christmas Upgrade Program

Backstory: My camera's latest firmware upgrade gave me an ISO 50 setting. Back in the film days I loved shooting low ISO and I was really excited doing it with my digital camera. Only problem was, with a large softbox shooting ISO 100 my B400s were cranked up to full power. If I wanted to shoot ISO...

  • Re: advise for buying studio lighting

My camera's most recent firmware upgrade added ISO 50 and I'm looking to upgrade my lights. I've got a pair of Alien Bee B400 strobes for sale. Contact me if you're interested. If I don't hear from anyone in a couple of days I'll list them on eBay.

  • Re: Please help new equipment coming in. NOW WHAT?

Impressions: I do have to add that I am constantly amazed that people who don't understand the basics of exposure (f-stops and aperture, film speed and how they relate to each-other) are willing to spend money on even more equipment that they don't know how to use. Don't get me wrong, I didn't...

  • Re: Want to buy a new lens

This book is suggested by the author of the blog I referenced above: Master Lighting Guide for Portrait Photographers I can't vouch for it, but it certainly sounds like a good place for a lot of folks here to start...

  • Just thinking out loud... help me with my thought process

I am finding myself in need of a good on-camera flash, as well as some studio strobes. I have some different situations coming up this summer, and will need the flash for those. I need some good studio strobes because I'm just not getting quite enough light from my current set-up. I've been debating...

  • Re: These Alien Bees

  • Re: sony a100 & bees

You guys rock! The thought of looking on ebay didn't even occur to me. I purchased a sync adapter from Wolf before realizing that it didn't fit (it seems I would have know this since I've used Minolta and now Sony cameras since I was 13. Thanks for the great help!!! Travis www.animalallure...
