  • Lighting Issues Shooting Hockey

I've recently been named the "official" photographer of our local single A pro hockey team. I went to practice yesterday and was incredibly disappointed with my photos. Obviously not being an NHL team, the lighting wasn't the best in the world, but I can't use my flash due to shooting...

  • My First Portraits

Hello. I'm new here but thought I'd jump right in. I am not a portrait photographer, I shoot nature and table top, however my brother was very upset about the Senior photos the school photographer had done of his daughter. I thought I'd give it a go. It should be like birding, get the light...

Hi All I know you all think ahead... thinking about what you can do with an image in the digital darkroom. I do that all the time. Here is just one example. When I took this snapshot of the Golden Gate Bridge last week, I envisioned the end-result in Apple's Aperture. I used the Crop, Straighten...

  • Using an EZ-Up for a studio

The thought 'hit' me last night - why not use my ez-up tent and its walls for a studio? It acts as a diffuser to sunlight. I can bounce the flash off the ceiling. I can hang lights from the ceiling I can put up or take down walls to facilitate needs. Currently I have very limited equipment and...

  • Deciding between a New 10mpix Digital SLR or photography classes

I want to justify buying my wife either a new $1300 camera with 10 mpix or spend this money on photography classes? My wife is very good at capturing intended images with her Nikon D70 but she spends a lot of time cropping and adjusting the RAW image before making a print. She would like to buy a higher...

  • Re: Blog Luv

I just put a new blog entry up Fall foliage planning & The art of getting lost I was reading in a current PPA magazine that your blog should have a singular focus and not vary from that. What does everyone think of that? I like talking about my explorations in photography whether I'm at a wedding...

  • Youth Basketball Poses

I got a call out of the blue from a lady needing a photographer to take photos for her sons (ages 12-14) basketball team pictures. I have never done any type of sports team and have no sports team poses to pull from. I googled it and did not come up with much that seemed usable. I have a few other questions...

  • family portraits with one softbox

I need some ideas for upcoming family portraits. A couple of things that I'm concerned about is composition and glasses glare-- I only have one Alien Bee 800 with a giant softbox. I will be shooting candids at a birthday party for a 100 year old grandmother and family and friends. The client also...
